Day 3.3 Catch up (A view from the Correct perspective--Marcy's)

So I haven't blogged yet, and not that I don't want to be writing this all down, but I am rather enjoying my stay and haven't wanted to sit down in front of a computer yet. So, allow me to let this out:

COSTA RIIIIIIICAAAAAAAAAAA!

I have to admit, the first thing I was worried about was food. As many of you know, I am a very picky eater, and I don't care too much for ethnic foods or anything resembling Mexican food. It makes my bladder cry. Anywho, I am delighted to say that the food is excellent and surpassed my expectations. The first time we stopped, I got shrimp (camarones) noodles with a white sauce and...... A SMOOTHIE! Yum. I am glad to say they still exist even in Central America. At Trogon Lodge, there was a ready supply of perfectly cooked fish, rice and beans, and even ceviche (jealous, Mrs. Suhey?)
The fruit drinks were awesome and did not have any artificial flavors whatsoever. You could taste every last pulpy juice bundle fiber.

Following our meal at Trogon Lodge, Diddles wanted to go for a run. Now we were at an altitude of about 8000 feet, so the air was just a tad thin, by which I mean I couldn't breathe and I felt like jungle spirits were pulling out my overly-enthusiastic heart in an arrythmiatic death experience. It was a trail run, and the whole first half was up a mountain (as most trail runs are), which is when I felt the worst. The way down was much more fun and I only had to worry about tripping over roots. It was very beautiful and cool, so it was not too bad. We only went about 2 miles. Oh well. I felt like I was a monkey from the Jungle Book.

Now we've moved from the mountains to the ocean, and the waves are calm and soothing. I'm going to take more potential senior pictures with the Ging tomorrow, but with the good camera, so I don't know if we'll be able to upload them. We'll see.

Day 3.2 (Jonas's Lunch Experience)

Cahuita, Costa Rica--I was very disappointed with a certain Costa Rican Restaurant. First off, we were outside and it was very hot and humid. Second, It was very loud with all of the crazy tourists pointing and blabbering about random birds. Then we ordered. I was anticipating my appetizer and main meal for a very long time. By the time I got my food (Including my appetizers!), everyone else was almost done. After the long wait, I desired some ketch-up for my Costa Rican Cultural onion rings. So the Lady brought out those tiny insignificant useless ketch-up packets. I opened about 14 of them and that was barely enough. I was also very disappointed that I couldn't open half of them. I will definitely five them 0 out of 5 stars. (Ginger interrupts: Everybody else enjoyed their meal.)

When we got here there was a dog. So I threw coconuts and he enjoyed it a lot. Here are a few pics.

Jonas as he angry blogs.

Day 3.1

Cahuita, Costa Rica--Today we left our beautiful lodge in the mountains and headed for about 8 hours towards the more humid coast. Despite the long car ride, we all managed to have fun. Mimmy, Ruthie, Be'l, Marcy, and I sang for at least an hour of the way (Diddy and Jonas started requesting us to sing their favorite song, a.k.a. "silence").

We stopped for lunch along the way, but I'll let Jonas tell you all about that.

We finally arrived at a gorgeous resort by the Caribbean Sea. I'm sitting in kind of an enlarged gazebo structure with little tables, chairs, and a bar. We will be eating breakfast in it tomorrow, with the waves crashing in the background.

As we explored this afternoon, we found crabs nestling in the creek bed and a ginormous spider which was definitely NOT OKAY and I will not be sleeping tonight.

We all enjoyed an evening swim, and right now we're killing time before supper--we're eating at 8:00, which is going to feel like 10:00 to our bodies. Obviously, we're all starving, but Jonas isn't tasty enough to cannibalize, so we'll just have to wait it out.

Day 2.1

Trogon Lodge, Costa Rica--I thought I'd blog just a bit more about this wonderful lodge we're staying at. We're miles away from any town, and to get here we had to literally drive up the mountains. The dirt road was very steep and narrow, and several times cars coming the opposite way nearly hit us. As we began driving down the mountain to the lodge, the view was breathtaking. We were even more impressed once we arrived at Trogon Lodge.

Everything is so green, with lots of colorful plants and prehistoric-looking trees. The grass here is a special kind of grass that hardly ever needs mowed--paradise, right?--and the food is delicious. We'll have lots more pictures here a bit later, but for now enjoy these snapshots of the lodge.

The only real drawback of this place is that being up so high in the mountains, it's very hard to catch your breath. Grandpa didn't really seem bothered by the altitude, but the rest of us had minor headaches and shortness of breath. More pictures to come!

Day 1.1

Tragon Lodge, Costa Rica--We started the morning by taking our Typhoid pills, and were then disgusted by our father's fumes wafting under the bathroom door. It drew a few tears from my eyes. Then, at 4:30, we drove to the flying refrigerator, which is what airplanes should be called. Being on the airplane was like sawing off your own toes because I was scared to death. I remembered the one phrase I have been taught throughout my whole life: "YOLO." Adrenaline raced through my veins. I then laid back and assumed the position to nap.

The landing was rough in that it thoroughly nauseated my whole family. We refrained from yorking up our lunches as we disembarked. We met our guide Pika outside the airport. From there we were taken to a ground refrigerator, also known as an 11-passenger van. After a brief stop for lunch in San Jose (the food there was delicious) we walked through the rain back to our van.

Ginger interjects: On our three hour trek to the beautiful Tragon Lodge, we learned some interesting factual tidbits. We travelled on the Pan American Highway, which is the longest highway in the world, starts in Alaska and goes to the tip of South America. Costa Rica, which is roughly the size of West Virginia, is divided up into seven provinces, which are in turn divided up into counties.

Jonas continues: The lodge we're in is cool. The community is very nice (except for Marcy, who poked me). We're jet lagged and at an altitude of 7500 feet, so we're going to bed. There will be more tomorrow.

¡Viva la Costa Rica! or something

Welcome back to our blog after an extended four year hiatus! We decided to take another family vacation, this time with Grandpa King, Aunt Be'l, Aunt Ruthie, and Cousin Ryan and luckily for you, have decided to blog about our exciting adventures.

We arrived at our hotel room tonight, ready to get some sleep so we can depart on our 6:10 flight tomorrow morning to Atlanta; from there we'll fly on to Costa Rica. As we entered our hotel room, we noticed a lingering smell of cigarette smoke, which contrasted oddly with the "This hotel is 100% smoke-free" sign. Jonas immediately collapsed in agony on the bed. Fortunately, we were able to revive him (with the help of our cousin Isaiah) by taking our first pictures for the blog, displayed below.

Tomorrow, we will try to post once we are in Costa Rica, so tune in tomorrow evening!
