Day 10.1

Grand Canyon, AZ—Today was pretty cool. Yesterday we arrived at the Grand Canyon, and barely glimpsed it before sunset. We thought it was pretty cool then, but this morning we hiked about three miles total down the South Kaibob trail in the canyon. The view was spectacular. It is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. We took a lot of photos, but you really had to be there. GASP.

Up here at the national park, they have everything. They have a general store, which isn’t like one of those dinky little things that sell rice and kerosene, but it was like a full-blown grocery store/gift shop with practically everything foodwise you could want. I bought donuts ☺!! Also, there is a bank and a post office and several bus routes that can shuttle you anywhere in or even out of the park.

Jonas recently bought a slingshot and has been enjoying hurling stones, pine cones, and small animals (just kidding) into oblivion. So far he has not hit anybody, but knowing Jonas it is only a matter of time. Also, it costs two whole dollars to take an 8 minute shower here! It’s sick.

The birds here are mostly crows and ravens and they are large and very annoying. Their call sounds like “AWK AWK.” It’s relentless. If it weren’t illegal, I would use Jonas’s slingshot to exterminate them. Also, we made sugar cookies in the RV microwave oven! It worked wonderfully, except the cookies all ran together in one giant cookie pancake. However, it was still delicious. Yum yum.

Right now we’re outside around a fire, and we just finished s’mores. It gets surprisingly cold here at night and disgustingly hot during the afternoon AND we have no hookups here for the RV. Um, which is stupid. Tomorrow we’re checking out at around 11 and headed towards Hoover Dam. We also happen to have an extra day, so I say we should go to Las Vegas! Mom says it’s Sin City!
