Day 12.1

Death Valley, CA—We passed through Death Valley, the lowest point in the United States. I suspect it is also one of the hottest. It felt like we were drowning in the sun when Dad took that picture of us outside. Death Valley is full of large mountains and hardly any life, and the road goes uphill so steeply in some places that we were recommended to turn off the air conditioning to prevent engine overheating. Amazingly, some of the highest mountains have snow at the top. We’re going to stop in Porterville, California for the night before continuing on to the Sequoia National Park.

While he’s driving, Dad keeps hallucinating images of Dairy Queens and McDonald’s and donkeys and pools with women in flowery dresses fanning themselves. I’m concerned.

  1. Hmm, your dads visions sound exactly like the ones I always have. Perhaps we're on the same medication.
    LOL.
